AS MY WORLD TURNS
Snow Day
In the dark of early morning,
I open a blind to find
the world unexpectedly turned white.
Â
After breakfast,
I whirl around the kitchen
making Brunswick stew
and then go upstairs to meditate,
slightly tired but glad to have put
the stew on to simmer.
Â
I look out the window to see
a purple finch at the feeder,
a cardinal pecking around below.
and the snow lying along the dark branches
of trees like a lover.
Â
I sit, and the silence
settles around me like snow.
My hands are a lotus bud
waiting to open,
and I know beyond reason
that in just one deep breath,
I can hold the world.
